Approximately 30% of all Wordle answers contain at least one repeated letter. That means almost one in three puzzles will feature a "double" — and if you're not prepared for it, that's almost one in three puzzles where you're at a disadvantage.
This reference organizes double-letter words by which letter repeats, so you can quickly scan relevant options when you suspect a double in your puzzle.

Separated Doubles (Different Positions)
These are harder to detect because the repeated letter isn't adjacent:
Separated E
EERIE, ELITE, ENSUE, EVADE — and many words with E in position 1 or 3 and position 5 (which is the most common ending letter)
Separated A
AHEAD, ARENA, LLAMA, DRAMA, PANDA, SALAD, PASTA — A in position 1 or 2 with A in position 4 or 5
Separated R
RIVER, RULER, RADAR, RACER, RARER, ORDER — these are particularly tricky because R appears in both the start and middle/end
Strategy for Double-Letter Puzzles
- Always consider doubles after guess 3 — If common unique-letter words aren't matching, a double is likely.
- Test for doubles directly — Words like SKILL (double L), SHEER (double E), BLOOD (double O) simultaneously test the double and provide position info.
- Check the yellow letters — If a letter shows yellow, it's IN the word. But could it be in the word TWICE? The game only shows yellow/green for the position tested, not for all occurrences.
