Wordle Battle Royale in one line: 16 players are drawn into a knockout bracket, each match is a one-on-one Wordle on the same word, and the player who solves it first goes through. Four wins in a row makes you champion. It is free and runs in your browser.

How a Royale works
- Tap Play. You take a seat in a lobby straight away. Anyone else who taps Play in the next 30 seconds joins the same lobby. Any seats still empty when the time is up are filled, so you never wait longer than 30 seconds.
- The bracket is drawn. Sixteen players are split into two halves of eight, with the trophy in the middle. You start in the Round of 16 against the player next to you.
- Play your match. You and your opponent get the same hidden 5-letter word and six guesses each. You see your own board in full; of your opponent you only see how many guesses they have used and the colors of their last guess, never their letters.
- Move up the bracket. Win and you meet the winner of the neighbouring match as soon as it ends: quarter-final, semi-final, final. Lose and you can start a new Royale at once or stay and watch the rest live.
How a match is won
The first player to solve the word wins the match, the same rule as our duels. There is no countdown clock, so you can take a moment to think, but your opponent is working on the same word at the same time. If nobody finds it, the best guess decides:
| What happened | Who goes through |
|---|---|
| One of you solves it, the other does not | The player who solved it |
| You both solve it | Whoever solved it first (the match ends at the first solve) |
| Neither solves it in six guesses | More green letters in your best guess, then more yellow letters, then whoever finished first |
Two examples. Your opponent solves it on their 5th guess while you are still on your 3rd: the match is theirs, because they found it first. If neither of you finds the word and your best guess was 🟩🟩🟨⬜⬜ (green green yellow gray gray) against their 🟩🟩⬜⬜⬜ (green green gray gray gray), you go through on the extra yellow.
Power-ups work the same as in duels: a hint (1 gem) shows a letter that is in the word, a reveal (2 gems) shows a letter in its place, and an extra row (3 gems) gives you a seventh guess. They are optional and need a free account.
Matches need both players to keep playing: if you close the game, or make no guess for two minutes, your opponent goes through. That way nobody is left waiting.
Trophies and leagues
With a free account every Royale counts toward your league. Bronze and Silver players never lose trophies, so you can learn the format without risk. From Gold upwards an early exit costs the same as losing a duel, and a quarter-final exit costs half of that. A promotion shield protects you from a loss right after you move up a league.
| League | Champion | Runner-up | Semi-final | Quarter-final | Round of 16 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | +45 | +30 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Silver | +45 | +30 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Gold | +45 | +30 | 0 | -4 | -8 |
| Platinum | +45 | +30 | 0 | -6 | -12 |
| Diamond | +45 | +30 | 0 | -8 | -16 |
| Master | +45 | +30 | 0 | -11 | -22 |
| Legend | +45 | +30 | 0 | -13 | -26 |

Tips for winning a knockout
Steady beats rushed
The first solve wins, but a guess typed in a hurry that rules out nothing costs you more time than it saves. Take a few seconds to pick a word that tests new letters, then enter it. Once you are sure of the word, play it at once.
Open with information
A first guess with three vowels or common consonants, such as CRANE, SLATE or AUDIO, gives you the most to work with on guess two. Our list of best starting words compares the strongest openers.
Watch the rival bar
The small strip above your board shows your opponent's guess count and their last colors. If they light up four greens, they will probably solve on their next guess, so a safe guess that only gathers letters may be too slow. That is the moment to play the word you think is most likely.
Make guess six count
When a word beats you both, the best single guess decides the match. Use your last row on the word that fits the most greens and yellows you have found, never on a throwaway.
Know the traps
Words that differ by one letter (FIGHT, LIGHT, MIGHT, NIGHT) cost the most guesses. Our guides to common endings and double-letter words help you spot them early.
Royale compared with other ways to play
| Mode | Players | How you win | Best for |

| Royale | 16, knockout | First to solve each one-on-one match | A short tournament with a real champion |
| Random duel | 2 | First to solve the word | A quick head-to-head race |
| Friend Battle | 2, by room code | First to solve the word | Playing one friend or classmate |
| Wordle Unlimited | 1 | Solve as many words as you like | Practice with no daily limit |
| Daily Challenge | Everyone, same word | Your streak and the daily ranking | One puzzle a day |
Playing at school or on a Chromebook
Royale runs in the browser, so it works on school Chromebooks and tablets without installing anything, the same way Wordle Unblocked does. A match takes a few minutes, chat is limited to ready-made messages, and nobody needs an email address to play as a guest. Classes can tap Play at the same moment to land in the same bracket.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Wordle battle royale?
Yes. WordlyPlay Royale is a Wordle battle royale for 16 players. Everyone is drawn into a knockout bracket and plays one-on-one matches on a 5-letter word. Win four matches in a row and you take the trophy.
Is it free to play?
Yes. Royale is free, runs in your browser and needs no download. There is nothing to buy to enter, and gems and shop items never change the result of a match.
Do I need an account?
No. You can tap Play and join as a guest. With a free account your finishes earn or cost trophies in your league, and your results are kept on your profile.
How long does a Royale take?
A single match usually takes one to three minutes. You never wait for the whole round: when you win, you play the winner of the match next to yours as soon as it ends. Win all four matches and a Royale takes about ten minutes.
Who wins a Royale match?
The first player to solve the word wins the match and goes through. It does not matter how many guesses either of you used: as soon as one of you finds the word, the match is over.
What if neither of us solves the word?
The player whose best guess had more green letters wins. If that is level too, more yellow letters in that guess decides it, and if those are level as well, the player who finished first goes through.
Can I play a Royale with my friends?
Every Royale opens a lobby for 30 seconds, and everyone who taps Play in that time lands in the same bracket, so friends who start together usually play the same Royale. For a match against one friend, use Friend Battle with a room code.
Can I chat with my opponent?
Yes, with quick chat: a short list of ready-made messages and emojis such as "Good luck!" and "GG". There is no typed chat, which keeps Royale friendly for younger players and classrooms.
Does Royale work on a Chromebook, phone or tablet?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser on school Chromebooks, phones, tablets and computers, in portrait or landscape, with an on-screen keyboard and support for a physical one.
